Lore Locus: The Aurk

Aurk, Uruk, and Orc are all names for the same race; one which we’ll be diving into today. These powerful beings may seem intimidating at first glance with their muscular bodies and sharp features, but don't let that scare you away. The Aurk race has a rich history and culture that makes them stand out in the gaming world. From their creation by the gods to their loss of purpose and development of free will, playing as an Aurk in Mortal Reins offers a one-of-a-kind experience. So grab your weapons and get ready to explore the advantages of being an Aurk in this exciting game.

What is an Aurk?

Aurk are most easily recognized for their protruding lower jaws, which showcase their sharp fangs and tusks. They range between 5’5” and 7” tall, and weigh no less than 100kg. Their skin tone ranges from grey to brown, with a tint of green, and they are known to be uniquely muscular beings.

Burn short, but bright”

In Zurzok, the Aurk tongue, “Okuoku kop’poku ektakku’yer” translates roughly to “Burn short, but Bright.” This is the mantra of the race, whose short lives traditionally span just 40 years. Created by gods as warriors in a war long since lost, the Aurk reach physical maturity at 5 years old. Rather than allowing this to be a setback, the Aurk strive to leave behind a mark on the world to be their legacy. In a life so short, mediocrity isn’t an option. The origins of their race and subsequent loss of their original purpose also means that the Aurk, rather than leading aimless lives, make the conscious decision to develop and practice their own free will.

In addition to the pressure of a short lifespan, the Aurk are influenced by a complex web of clan, familial, and social relationships which are central to their way of life. Interestingly, these social webs include the Ur’kob goblins, who not only have a symbiotic relationship with the Aurk race, but who are often full-fledged members of Aurkish clans.

Pirates, Mercenaries, and Raiders

While far from being “dumb brutes” the Aurk lack much of the patience and social grace of their peer races. They were built to fight, and to this day that’s what they do best. The most organized and peaceful of the Aurk reside in the Bubon Kingdom of the northern mountains. The cold of this region suits them well, and tax collection and land ownership allow them more prosperity than many of their brethren in other regions. This does not, however, stop them from raiding their surrounding countryside for pleasure and profit.

Some Aurk chose to follow the Rymon tribes when they fled to the seas. The weak chain of commmand and free-form lifestyle of piracy is a comfortable life for many. Others still work as mercenaries to the Empire. While some choose to join the legion proper, the living standards, glory, and pay as private contractors far eclipses those of a soldier’s, as they are able to charge exuberant amounts of money when the Empire is threatened.

Stats and Tactics

Orcs in Mortal Reins get additional two points of strength at character creation. This means your Orc character will start off with a powerful physique, capable of delivering devastating blows to your enemies. Combine this with their one extra point of dexterity, and you have a lethal combination of strength and agility. But that's not all! Orcs in Mortal Reins have a high body temperature, granting them half damage from the cold. This makes them perfectly suited for exploring the frozen mountains of the North, without having to worry about freezing to death. And let's not forget their resistance to bleeding. If your Orc character gets knocked unconscious, they have the ability to stop the bleeding condition upon passing a death check. This can be a game-changer in intense battles, allowing your Orc to recover and get back into the fight.

While Orcs have a natural resistance to cold, they also take double damage from heat exhaustion. This means that strategic planning is necessary when venturing into hot climates. Make sure to equip your Orc with appropriate gear to combat the heat, such as cooling potions or heat-resistant armor. By carefully preparing your character and taking advantage of cool climates, you can ensure survival in challenging environments.

Overall, maximizing the strengths of Orcs in Mortal Reins requires a balance of strength, agility, and strategic planning. Embrace your Orc's innate abilities and focus on enhancing them through customization and preparation. With the right approach, you'll be able to overcome any challenge that comes your way and emerge victorious as a true Orc warrior. So, grab your weapons and embark on an adventure like no other in the world of Mortal Reins.
